An alternative to Ground Beams that is normally installed where the
increased depth of a Ground Beam is a concern. This is also an ideal
solution when close to the surface drainage or tree roots are present.
The slab is excavated shortly after the piling work is completed and
commonly a layer of void former is placed at the bottom of the excavation.
Layers of reinforced steel mesh are then placed on to the piles and
plastic chairs are placed between the mesh and the void former to
ensure the engineers required cover is maintained. The concrete is
then poured and levelled providing an adequate base to build upon.
